Seniors Can Fly High in the “Rocket City”

Seniors Can Fly High in the “Rocket City”Plenty of cities try to state their claim as the coolest one out there, but only our native Huntsville can say it’s the home of Earth’s largest space museum (the US Space & Rocket Center)…and it has the real spaceships to prove it! Indeed, this is the “Rocket City,” where the options for living, learning and having fun can quite literally take you to the moon and back!

There’s a lot more to Huntsville than aerospace and high-tech industry, though. For example, the 19th century truly lives on today at Harrison Brothers Hardware. Located in vibrant Downtown Huntsville, the shop’s been kept to this day a whole lot like it was when it was founded back in 1879. Not far from there, art lovers frequent the Huntsville Museum of Art, and more still visit Huntsville Botanical Garden, a literal oasis near the heart of the city.

Adventures in Huntsville’s great outdoors await at Monte Sano State Park, which climbs more than 1,600 feet above the city below. There’s also Ditto Landing, which acts as a gateway to the Tennessee River. The spot makes a great place for fishing, boat rides, picnics and more.

Back in town, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is the largest privately-owned arts facility in the south. There, inside an historic textile mill, seven galleries, a theatre, multiple performance venues, restaurants and much more await those who are passionate about visual arts. Other artsy options include the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Huntsville Ballet and Von Braun Center, which offers a sports arena, concert hall and one of Huntsville’s many performing arts theatres.

Add to all this the countless themed festivals and seasonal events that happen here year-round, and the city’s various college and professional sports teams, which include the Rocket City Trash Pandas, Double-A Affiliate for the Angels of Major League Baseball, and there’s no limit to how much fun can be had right here in Huntsville.

From SummerHouse Byrd Springs, all this and so much more is within easy reach, with our central yet private location coming as yet another reason why residents of our community can live better and experience more right here in our northern Alabama hometown.
