Celebrating mother day’s is a special way to show our moms appreciation and love for our upbringing. It is also the occasion to honor mothers-in-law and other motherly figures in our lives. Expensive gifts are not the only way we can celebrate them. With mother’s day right around the corner, we present this essential guide to celebrating mother’s day in retirement.
Bring Her Out For Dinner or Cooking a Meal
The way to a mother’s heart is through her stomach! Bringing your mother out to her favorite restaurant for breakfast, brunch, lunch, tea-time or dinner is the best way to show her your appreciation. You can soak in each other’s company and indulge in deep conversations while enjoying a hearty meal.
If your mother is not able to travel out to a restaurant, you can also try to do the cooking yourself! It does not have to be an extravagant 8-course meal, it’s the thought that counts. If your mother also enjoys cooking, you can invite her to join in the cooking with you.
Everybody loves a good retail therapy. Taking your mother out to the local mall to shop is a fun activity, even if you are just there to window shop. If something catches your mother’s eye, you can buy it for her as a gift.
Do Something She Enjoys
Your mother may have hobbies that you do not enjoy or fully comprehend, but Mother’s day is a great time to show your love by taking the time to understand what her hobbies are. If she enjoys arts and crafts, attend a hands-on art class with her. If she enjoys the outdoors, take her out to the local park or garden for a walk. If she enjoys scrapbooking, create one with her full of your photographs and memories together. Add in little captions to record the little moments or inside jokes.
Listen to Music
Everybody has their unique taste in music. If there is a local performance or concert coming up that she might enjoy, you can take her out to it. You can also create a custom playlist of her favorite songs and invite her to share why she likes each song when you are listening to it together. You can even share some of your favorites with her!
Pay Attention to Her Needs
One of the best ways to show your mother you love her is by paying attention to her. Check in with her on how she is feeling lately and offer your help where required. This shows her that she is valued and not alone.
