You Know Senior Living Life Is Fun in the City That Gave America Mardi Gras
Once called the “Paris of the South,” our native Mobile is the cultural capital of the Gulf Coast, blending three centuries of history and tradition with modern-day amenities and experiences and adding in our signature Southern hospitality to boot.
From the doorstep of SummerHouse Heritage Woods, it’s only about 15 minutes to downtown Mobile, where signature landmarks include, of course, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Another favorite spot, Cooper Riverside Park, is like an oasis in the heart of downtown, great for watching ships come in and out of port. GulfQuest Maritime Museum is also right there, offering interactive exhibits and a fascinating look at the history, culture and economic significance of the Gulf of Mexico.
Mobile is a bona fide metropolitan city, with all the arts and culture destinations you’d expect. In addition to dozens of historically significant homes and cultural landmarks, there’s the History Museum of Mobile and Mobile Botanical Gardens, whose 100 acres of beauty and blooms are open and on display all year. Close enough to smell the flowers is the Mobile Museum of Art, which alongside Saenger Theatre and the city’s Symphony, Opera and Ballet, is just the tip of the iceberg for art lovers. Downtown also comes alive for the LoDa Art Walk, a wildly popular gathering on the second Friday of each month.
For sports fans, there’s pulse-pounding racing action every other Saturday at Mobile International Speedway and Hank Aaron Stadium and childhood home, which are must-see destinations for lovers of our national pastime. And maybe most importantly of all, Mobile knows how to party…in fact, we sort of introduced the nation to it! As the birthplace of America’s original Mardi Gras, the celebrations get bigger and better each and every year.
Our community sits within easy reach of all this and so much more, including Shoppes at Bel Air and many of our own favorite neighborhood spots for dining and recreation. A convenient central location, delightful small-town feel, and big-time possibilities for fun and entertainment just add to the list of reasons why SummerHouse Heritage Woods provides a perfect setting for living well and enjoying life here along Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
